I have been doing serious formula one model car modeling for almost 16 years now and obviously model making is my hobby. Although recent Formula One racing is getting boring and boring, I still love Formula One car. They just look so nice and are like a piece of arts. My first ever built F1 model was Tamiya 1/20 McLaren MP4/4 that my Uncle bought it to me back in 1989 in one hobby shop in San Mateo, CA. That one still had an original Marlboro decal and I built it out of the box and used included orange decal too. The end result was very cool.
My second F1 is McLaren MP4/7 Honda. I don't know why but I just love Marlboro red/white car. But Marlboro decal was missing. Luckily, some fellow modelers from rec.models.scale told me that F1 Specialties is specialized in F1 modeling aftermarket accessories and I found one set for my MP4/7. Then I built on with full Marlboro livery and I felt so excited.
In 1994, I went to NNL model show at Santa Clara Convention Center at Santa Clara, CA. I saw a set of very nice super-detailed Lotus 107 and Footwork FA13. The amount of wiring was so breath taking that I never realized F1 modeling can be as fun as that. Then I figured that I would build one just like that and I started my next F1 project as a super detailed project (my first ever try), Benetton B192. That's how I start doing serious F1 modeling.
Tamiya/Con is my driving force to build and finish a F1 model at least one a year. I have been attending Tamiya/Con since 1996. My first entry was my first super-detailed Benetton B192 and it was my first-ever attendance to model contest. It was really fun. I remembered the entry number I had in 1996 is #42 and the entry # I got in Tamiya/Con 04 is #240. You can tell how big this event has grown over years. It is always a great place to meet different modelers with similar interest. This great event has become one of my annual festival that I *must* attend annually.
Now my work is getting busier and busier and I can only manage to build one F1 model a year. It is usually the one I would take to Tamiya/Con in the following year. If I can finish my subject for next Tamiya/Con, it would be my 10th appearance at this great event and I am looking forwards to it.
